Mato Homola won at Slovakia Ring!
Slovak hero, race driver, Mato Homola did an awesome job at Slovakia Ring, at our home race track, where won the whole FIA ETCC race weekend. Starting with Saturday Mato won Qualifying session as he was the fastest out of 26 race drivers from 10 European countries. Mato's line of victory continued on Sunday morning, when he also won the warm-up.
Followingly he dominated both European Touring Car Cup FIA ETCC races. In the first race, Mato lost 2 positions on the wet track, but due to the mistake of Karamyshev and Skuz ,Mato could overtake, take the lead and win. The second race was only 15 min. after the Race 1 with switched TOP 8 grid positions. In the first lap he managed to overtake 5 race cars and after some time he was in a battle for 1st position with Russian race driver Michal Grachev. Mato was patient and drove a few laps behind Grachev and overtook him only 3 laps before the race end in the 1st corner, where Slovak fans went absolutely crazy (in a good way :D)
At the end Mato won the race weekend and on the podium they played the Slovak national anthem. Mato said: "It was absolutely fantastic feeling!! I really badly wanted to win at our home track. After the crash at Paul Ricard we had to repair the car so I wan to thank my team for preparing the car. The fans were awesome, I reckon I will remember this race for the rest of my life!"
In the overall classification in FIA ETCC TC2T is Mato now at 4th place, only 13 points behind Karamyshev – the current leader. The next race event is on 23rd – 25th May at Salzburgring in Austria.
