Mato Homola - heroic performance at Salzburgring
One of the best current Slovak race drivers – 19-year old Mato Homola showed his pace at the Austrian Salzburgring, too. After summing up the results of this race weekend of European Touring Car Cup FIA ETCC, Mato finished on great second position. In both races he managed to finish right behind Russian racer – Nikolaj Karamyshev.
Mato Homola with his ex-works BMW 320 TC did a heroic result at Salzburgring. Even though his car has less power and a bit worse aerodynamics, he was constantly in the fight for position 1. The time Mato lost on straights, he gained in technical parts of the circuit with 'hard-braking' style. During the weekend, Mato was getting better and better; and in the second race he did the best lap time out of the whole starting grid. In both races he was leading for a while, but in the end he had to be happy with the second position. Mato's qualifying and 2x second places make together 18 points, what resulted in 3rd position in current TC2T class, only 1 point behind Ukrainian race driver Skuz who drives with Chevrolet. Current TC2T leader – Karamyshev with Chevrolet has 15 points more than Mato.
"I should be very happy how this weekend end up," said Mato Homola on a way back to Slovakia. "Everything worked as expected and the team did a great job. I managed to overtake at least one of the fast Chevrolets. Both Chevrolet Cruzes from Campos team are from ex-works RML team and both Yvan Muller with Alain Menu were leading with these cars in WTCC last year. At that time other cars couldn't keep the pace and something similar is happening in ETCC at the moment. Even though we try as much as possible, it is difficult for us – even more on the fast circuits as Salzburgring. At Slovakia Ring I did beat both of them, this time only one Chevrolet. We will definitely try hard at our next race in beautiful Belgian Spa-Francorchamps."
That is where in one month (21.06 - 22.06) FIA ETCC 2014 continues. Mato Homola and team Homola Motorsport will not miss a chance to race over there.
