Mato Homola dominated at Sicily

Mato Homola, one of the current most successful Slovak race drivers, has enjoyed second successful race weekend in this dramatic race season. After the phenomenal success at home race track – Slovakia Ring, Mato won the whole race weekend of the last FIA ETCC 2014 event – 2200km distant track at Pergusa, Sicily.

In qualifying, Mato lost his pole position in the last lap, where Mato’s rival Nikolay Karamyshev, who races with RML Cruze, did a laptime 0.15 seconds faster than Mato.

In the first race, Mato was pushing hard win the race, and was in battle with Karamyshev. In the end, Mato wasn’t able to overtake Karamyshev s he finished 2nd. Due to the double points, which were given this weekend, Karamyshev became Champion of FIA ETCC 2014.

In the second race, Mato started from 7th position as first 8 drivers switch their positions. Mato’s strategy was to keep calm and don’t do any mistake in first chicane. After the chicane he was 6th and afterwards pushed hard, so 2 laps later he was 2nd right behind Igor Skuz, who races with second RML Cruze. They finished the race in the same order.

When the points summed up, Mato Homola won the whole race weekend at Pergusa, and Sicilian audience with millions people watching of Eurosport TV had a chance to listen to Slovak National anthem.

After the race many experts said that Mato is now ready to enter WTCC Championship. Fingers crossed.
