Mato: "The race weekend at Brno was better than we expected as we finally finished with great points, which are needed for the championship. The first race showed our speed and I finished on 1st place. In the second race, I had to start from the middle of the racing grid and I was pushing as fast as possible. We had a nice battle with Borkovic, and while I had better lap times, but I did not want to risk zero point result so I finished right behind him on the second position."
Altogether, after summing up the points qualifying (P1), Race 1 (P1) and Race 2 (P2) Mato Homola won FIA ETCC Brno races! This result helped him to climb in current standing from 4th place in Single Make Trophy to place 4.
The third round of FIA ETCC at the French circuit Paul Ricardo was not one of the most successful ones fro Mato Homola. Even though pushed hard, drove fast laps with his SEAT Leon Cup Racer and finished on P3 in Qualifying, he did not manage to the best result.
Hello, I just wanted to share with you my emotions from the last race weekend at Slovakia Ring.
It was a weekend I was waiting for a long time.
My dream came true, another dream.
The weekend was full of emotions and experiences.
I wanted to primarily win at Slovakia Ring in front of home fans. You know home is always home. And that's why it was special.
My SEAT Leon Cup Racer is an incredible car, and as it was only the second race weekend with this car, I was very excited. And it worked well.
I wanted to win at least one race and it was just this close.
But an overall 2nd place is still close to my goal – to win FIA ETCC Championship this year.
Mato Homola has fully enjoyed the home races of FIA WTCC and ETCC series at Slovakia Ring. 41 000 fans came to watch how he races both in World Championship WTCC and European ETCC - where he competes with his SEAT Leon Cup Racer.
Race driver Mato Homola will start on 19 – 21 June on Slovakia Ring as the first race driver from Slovakia in world championship FIA WTCC! Mato Homola will be also the first race driver who will race in both ETCC (with his SEAT Leon Cup Racer) and WTCC with TC1 car in one weekend. So you will see Mato also in RML Cruze TC1 from Spanish team Campos Racing.
Mato, a third year in a row, did not have a good start of the racing FIA ETCC season. He did not finish Hungaroring as he wanted. With his brand new SEAT Leon Cup Racer started into Race 1 from the 4th place. With his fast driving style, he managed to climb on Position 1 in the first few laps! In the third lap, he was winning, but behind there was Serbian Dusan Borkovic – also driving SEAT. Aggressive driving of this ex-WTCC racer caused a collision, where Dusan sent Mato out of the track into barriers. The geometry of the car was affected so he had to drive to Pits so the team could get ready for the Race 2.
